Installing motors into an 8448 is simple. In fact, they make room for 2
motors. (one in the front, one in the back). If you want to add the third
and keep the gull wing doors, you'll have to do some modification, but not
too much, to fit 2 motors side by side in the back. In my opinion, it's not
worth it to motorize the 8448 fully keeping all of the engine/transmission
features. It's cool in a way because you see the entire car moving and you
can see the speed difference from changing transmissions. It's also not too
hard to write an RC program (provided you have two RCX bricks) to control
the car (just send a lot of messages...). The unrewarding part comes when
you oberve the speed....it's nothing too astounding. Even with 3 motors
working in unison, the combined weight of the 8448/RCX/natural friction is
just too much for it to be fun. The 8475 motors are significantly better
though and people have gotten good results with that...
Another thing you could do (and Jake Rentar did this) is to put the motors
directly to the wheels...eliminating as much friction as possible. This
gives you non-straight driving if your motor power outputs are different but
it also gives you the most amount of power you can have.
From what I've seen, the 8466 is significantly harder to motorize than the
8448.

| (...) Perhaps I could help a bit here from first-hand experience with the 8466. After much debate, I had decided not to buy the RC car (129.99) for motorizing the 8466. So instead I tried it with the rcx and/or standard battery pack (as seen in (...) (22 years ago, 12-Sep-02, to lugnet.technic)

| It seems that a lot of people here, did this already. I have 8448, and I really wonder which extra set that would be a good combo to make my 8448 as a remote control car. Some people did this with Mindstorm, but I read a couple post below that you (...) (22 years ago, 11-Sep-02, to lugnet.technic)
