In a couple years we might see the studded bricks and plates which have been
around for decades dissappear alltogether and be replaced with different kind

pieces make the sets look more realistic, it just makes it awkward for us who
fell in love with the studded bricks when we were kids or adults and have been
building with them for all of our lives.

Dan,

I think you're definitely overstating the problem.  First off, the Star Wars
sets you mention are Technic sets - which have always had far fewer bricks than
System sets anyway.  There are some things you just can't do with the brick.

Second, while those new connectors and such *are* great for the technic-style
robots and sports cars and even helicopters and stuff, they would hardly look
at all good for houses, castles, ships...and I don't think LEGO is going to
abandon System.

I do think we'll see more and greater variety of Technic parts, but they will
always be compatible with the brick, and the brick will still be around because
it's the best piece for certain jobs.

Yes, that's what I was thinking when looking at the scans of the new star wars technic droids. There doesn't seem to be a single studded brick in these sets! These sets look nice and have a great functionality but they don't _look_like_ lego at all. (...) (24 years ago, 11-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)
