Dear all, I hope someone can help me.  I am attempting a MOC of a
Series II Land-Rover with as much functionality as I can achieve
and last night I realised that the only set with steerable driven
wheels is the 8880. I have one and I could use the wheels from that
but that would up the scale of the model too far.  Has anyone else
tried to do this? Could they let me know how they achieved it? (I
may be wrong that there's no COTS model with full 4 wheel drive).

Ooo.  This is difficult.  I have tried to make a Land Rover to the
scale of the 5571 wheels two times, but failed both times.  The first
time I wanted to build one with four wheel drive and no working
suspension.  I used bevel gears rather than universal joint to compose
the steering wheel drive.  But this caused far too much friction, and
the mechanism took up too much place.

The second time, I went for rear wheel drive only and front and rear
coil sprung live axle.  I actually finished off a working prototype
for the chassis, but eventually I became too tired from the project
too continue on.  The chassis is in my "not completed" box along with
some other stuff.

I would say that to build a working model, you probably need to go for
the scale of the 8880 wheels.  Otherwise, you'll end up with a lot of
frustration because of the crammed space.  But if you want a real
challenge, do go on!
