  rubber band power

Does anyone have a good design for powering a vehicle with rubber band power. I've played around with several ideas but results were disappointing. Doesn't seem like it should be so hard, but mine only go a few feet. Any help or references would be (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Perhaps you can build something similar to 8205? This design is fairly efficient: (URL) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)

(...) I played about with that idea too.. I created a gear rack years ago that geared up to silly proportions using large and medium gears, although it did twist a few axles. (...) It's not on brickshelf because it was released in 1997, thus hasn't passed the 2 year rule yet. The rubber band wraps around an axle, which has a gear attached to it. There is another gear on the drive axle. Between these two gears is a (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)

(...) The LEGO technic ideabook 8888 (pages 67-69) has one in it. I never tried it, but it looks ok. Look at: (URL) the building instructions. -Frank (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)

(...) never got it to actually work. :-( Perhaps I didn't take enough care to let the axles spin freely? Fredrik (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)
