First of all, hello and thank goodness I found this place!!! I never thought
there was this many people out there who are in to Lego.
With that out of the way, let me ask a question.  I have seen a few modified
8880's on various websites, but I jst finished making a 12-cylinder mod to mine
and would be willing to post some pictures if ther is any interest in them.
Also, I would like to know if anyone has ever motorized this set successfully
and would love to learn how.  I tried to add the motor directly to the end of
the crank (fan end) via chain.  Looked good i neutral, but with it in gear the
motor just couldn't hack it.  It could be that I was using 4.5 volt motor from
the late 80's with several hours of serious use on it (it makes noise without a
load).  Are the new 9 volt motors better?? and what about this "gear-motor" I
have heard about??

sorry for so many questions, but is all new to me all over again.  please feel
free to e-mail me with any suggestions or comments.

Pat

Hi Pat, The 8880 is a very heavy model with big wide tires that are very reluctant to roll. The new gear head motors are a lot better, but I don't think you could move this 4 wheel drive car with one motor. I hope you will join with us on this news (...)
