Hi Pat,

The 8880 is a very heavy model with big wide tires that are very reluctant
to roll. The new gear head motors are a lot better, but I don't think you
could move this 4 wheel drive car with one motor.
I hope you will join with us on this news group so we can discuss things
together rather than through the mail.  We all enjoy seeing pictures of LEGO
creations, so post them when you can.

First of all, hello and thank goodness I found this place!!! I never • thought
there was this many people out there who are in to Lego.
With that out of the way, let me ask a question.  I have seen a few • modified
8880's on various websites, but I jst finished making a 12-cylinder mod to • mine
and would be willing to post some pictures if ther is any interest in • them.
Also, I would like to know if anyone has ever motorized this set • successfully
and would love to learn how.  I tried to add the motor directly to the end • of
the crank (fan end) via chain.  Looked good i neutral, but with it in gear • the
motor just couldn't hack it.  It could be that I was using 4.5 volt motor • from
the late 80's with several hours of serious use on it (it makes noise • without a
load).  Are the new 9 volt motors better?? and what about this • "gear-motor" I
have heard about??

sorry for so many questions, but is all new to me all over again.  please • feel
free to e-mail me with any suggestions or comments.

Pat
