I don't think it's in any danger of dying down. A close friend of mine works
in a children's bookstore, and they opened at 12:01am on Saturday (the release
date of Harry Potter IV) until 1 to sell the book. The line wrapped around the
corner of the block- at midnight, there were about 800 people there, kids and
adults. Many came in costume (which was encouraged by the event- the workers
were all in costume as well).
