From the symptoms you describe I would say you need "a bigger battery box".
Battery boxes (and motors too) contain a current limiting device. It is a
resistor whose value increase (a lot) with temperature. When you start your
motor the resistor is cold, a large current flows and the motor turns. With the
current, the resistor heats up, resistance increases and current drops, causing
motor to stop and light to dim.
The problem could also come from the motor protection, but since the light dims,
it is clearly located in the power source. It would probably help to ingrease
motor gear down to reduce load on the motor...

| Philo and Gereon, Thanks so much for your quick replies. I've rebuilt it, and it seems that a larger batter box was the solution. My helicopter should be ready to fly well in advance fo BrickFair, as planned! thanks! Magnus (16 years ago, 16-Jul-08, to lugnet.technic)

| Hello, I wondered if any motor-savvy Technic experts out there could help me out with a problem. I'm building a helpicopter, and am powering two rotors plus a light and sound double red light with a single old motor: (URL) a light and sound type (...) (16 years ago, 14-Jul-08, to lugnet.technic)
