I went on a mission to K-mart today, and ended up sidetracked on
the Lego aisle :) I couldn't resist and grabbed one of the new Robo
Riders. I picked Frost because the piece count was the highest of
all the ones they had. Once home I popped open the container and
built it. This is a cool little set, it reminds the Throwbots
(Slizer) in size, and some of the construction/parts but the disk is
launched vertically and rolls along the ground. When you aren't
launching the disc it becomes the front wheel of the motorcycle type
creation, which can also be shoved across the room on its own wheels.
I think a fun project will be figuring out how to spin up the
discs and launch them with Mindstorms, especially if I could design a
loader that could hold multiple discs and launch one every X seconds,
possibly even in different directions. These discs look much more
friendly to being launched via motor than the Throwbots disks, as
there is a hole in them suitable for fitting a Technic axle through.
In native form the discs are launched via spring loaded plastic with a
special piece which works on the same principals as a Throwbot arm
although it takes less coordination to operate with success.

| Confirmed, K-Mart has the RoboRiders on the shelves before everyone else. I just picked of 4 of the 6 at my local K. There's something I want to check now. Remember how Lego said Throwbot disk distribution was random but in reality each Throwbot (...) (24 years ago, 4-Jun-00, to lugnet.technic)
