First of all 1wd car would be only one wheel running. But in the 8840 instructions both rear wheels are driving the engine and it is by definition a 2wheel drive car, but with a stiff rear axel. Well... I checked Mike Fusion's thin differential ( (URL) ). It works fine... but it's simply too big!!!! So I had to think about a smaller diff that would work the same way... and that's what I got... using pulleys instead of 40-tooth gears and (...) (22 years ago, 21-Dec-02, to lugnet.technic)
