Already got em :-).  I agree with you entirely.  I just think one
or two additional parts for the head would have increased the sales
of this set a lot.

I think it is a daring move from TLC to launch a set like this, which
looks like a Stormtrooper (in my opinion) without relying on
specialized parts to compose that look.  It does a great job of
displaying the versatility of LEGO bricks, I think.

Granted, but...

Of course LEGO makes sets to earn money, in which case they could
perhaps have made even more by introducing more specialized parts, as
you say.  But as I see it, TLC also make money by getting people
hooked on the LEGO building experience.  In the long run, the Star
Wars craze may die off, and the LEGO collectors may turn to other
things to collect.  But if a lot of people are hooked on the kind of
creative building process above, they will still buy LEGO sets.

I'm not so sure that this is altogether Lego's philosophy now-adays; judging by
all the POOPS (even in the SW sets to an unsettling degree), Lego's doesn't seem
to have a lot of confidence in using the creative building possibilities speak
for the quality and versatility of the product.  Lego seems to be introducing a
heck of a lot of specialized parts (from Town Jr. POOPS to overly-specialized
Technic design elements) because the company is afraid that today's generation
of kids needs their toys handed to them.  If I was convinced that Lego designed
this Cylon, err.. Stormtrooper in order to challenge builders to "think outside
the box" so to speak, then I might respect and even applaud that decision.  But
I don't think that Lego has shown much commitment to staying true to the
philosophy of providing elements that encourage problem-solving and initiative;
Lego seems to be trying real hard for profits, and maybe not hard enough for
principle and the imaginative multi-purpose possibilities of the product.

Just my thoughts,

James
