In lugnet.starwars, Chris Norman writes:
If it is a leak, please don't continue to post more about it here on
LUGNET.  For better or for worse, please respect the publicity rights of
LEGO and let them reveal the contents of their products on their own
agenda.

I would have to say that I find this to be a bit ridiculous. I guess I do
not understand your reasoning behind your statement?

The reasoning is simple:  The LUGNET Terms of Use Agreement

   http://www.lugnet.com/admin/terms/?p=agreement

forbids anyone to post information which infringes upon the privacy or
publicity rights of others.  If you ask LEGO, I think you'll find that they
view any and all "leaks" as unauthorized publication of their intellectual
property -- an invasion of privacy and/or publicity, in so many words.

We are not talking about leaked info about long term plans for Star Wars
sets from TLG. We are talking about sets that have already been introduced,
with introduction dates set.

If you can reference some official announcement from TLC about the Podracing
bucket, by all means please feel free to do so.  If it hasn't been announced
officialy by TLC as part of the website or a catalog or some licensed
promotion, then it hasn't been introduced.

Since we all know they are coming, why should
we care were the info is coming from?

No one is saying that you should care where it came from.  What you put into
your brain is your own business.  It's what you publish (put _out_ of your
brain) that is the issue.  If you feel you do have to share leaks, it's
perfectly within your rights to do it elsewhere -- there are plenty of leak
clubs on the Internet.  But LUGNET is not a leak club.

If TLG did not want us to know about
them, then they would keep a tight lid on all their info.

I wouldn't presume that they aren't trying to keep a lid on it.

If anything, getting info about sets we know are coming out in the very near
future, only HELPS TLG,

Probably very true, but that's really TLC's business.  LEGO is, as a general
rule, an *extremely* secretive company.  Even if we don't like that, we should
respect it.  If we can't respect it, then we should at least respect the LUGNET
Terms of Use Agreement, which we have agreed to.

because it keeps us all salivating for them till
they come out. Do you think that there would be more or less interest in the
sets if we knew nothing about them till the day they came out? I think there
would be less... myself.

I think that's a great question, Chris, but it's really not relevant to the
issue of leaks.

Just because leaked information is arguably "good for consumers" or arguably
"helpful to TLC" doesn't make it right.

But let's not argue morals or ethics.  Morals and ethics are irrelevant when
it's simply against the rules here to post leaks.

In the end, this is all moot. I'm keeping the pics to myself, and should have never brought it up. As a webmaster of sorts, it's very easy to jump out and say "look what I've got!" I should have gone to LEGO and asked, like I am doing now. If LEGO (...) (25 years ago, 23-Mar-00, to lugnet.starwars)
