The first B-wing was created by Admiral Ackbar and some Verpine ship builders.
This single craft was sent to destroy an entire TIE fighter staging area.
Thanks two its gyroscopic stabilization the B-wing is the best dog fighter
in the Star Wars universe.  Its success is what got Ackbar promoted.

and I here I figured Ackbar got promoted the same way other Rebel leaders got
promoted -- the Imperials wiped their predecessors...

I'm not sure the Mon Calamari were internal to the Empire, were they?  At the very
least, none of them served the Emperor, and that explains why they suddenly
"appeared" among the Alliance ships.  I could be wrong, however.

(...) Actually, Ackbar is said to have served the Emperor directly, and that's where he got much of his knowledge of Imperial tactics. Of course, it depends on which book you're reading... :) ~Mark (24 years ago, 23-Jan-00, to lugnet.starwars)
