I just came up with an idea after getting the X-wing to make the rear landing gear more realistic. What you need for each side is a minifig ski, a 1x1 round plate, and two 1x1 round bricks. Where there is the space for a 2x3 brick on the botom of (...) (26 years ago, 5-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)
Last night I made actual retracting landing gear for my X-Wing as well as adding sides to the R2D2 socket so he won't fall out.
