I just came up with an idea after getting the X-wing to make the
rear landing gear more realistic. What you need for each side is
a minifig ski, a 1x1 round plate, and two 1x1 round bricks. Where
there is the space for a 2x3 brick on the botom of the engine, put
the 1x1 plate on the inner of the two stud bottoms. This will serve
as a mount for the landing gear when retracted. Next take the ski
and put the two bricks on it like the front gear. Then stick that onto
the bottom of the engine. The best place would be directly infront
of that 2x3 opening. To  have the gear retracted, take off the top
round brick and put it on the outside of the 2x3 area(it would be
right next to the round plate that was placed earlier. Finally put the
other round brick with ski still attatched onto the round plate and there
you have the landing gear in retracted postition.
I hope that wasn't too confusing, I hate typing out instructions:) If you
don't quite get it I'd be willing to Ldraw it. PLMKWYT

Last night I made actual retracting landing gear for my X-Wing as well as adding sides to the R2D2 socket so he won't fall out. I won't go into to much detail trying to describe my modifications for the retracting gear since it would be too complex (...) (25 years ago, 5-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)
