Hey - did anyone ever figure out how many ISD kits it would take to build a
Super Star Destroyer?

Lets disregard that the actual size differential is about 11x (according to
some sources) and go with a more realistic upsize of 5x in length, width, and
height. That would give a convincingly wow, thats bigger model, and stick
with the LEGO tradition of undersizing models.
For a solid figure, a 5x increase in dimensions yields a 25x increase in surface
area. So, youd need about 25 ISD sets to provide enough surface plates to
build a Super-ISD 5x the size. (btw, a full 11x upsize would increase surface
area x121)
But, Im not sure if there are enough internal support parts in each ISD set to
support the mass of the larger structure. So, you might need more, or a trip to
BrickLink to buy lots of beams.
Have fun! And dont forget to take lots of pictures! Maybe George Lucas™ would
give you a grant...

| (...) The second Death Star wasn't damaged - it was "unfinished" (but still fully operational). Buy two? Nah, buy three - build both the "finished" Death Star I and the "unfinished" Death Star II. Don't forget to swarm both with lots of mini-mini (...) (20 years ago, 23-Feb-05, to lugnet.starwars)
