Wouldn't it suck if Lucas DID show the AT-ATs being dispatched to Hoth, and it
turned out they just fell from space like meteorites, deploying a bunch of
balloons at a certain altitude so it could bounce and roll safely across the
terrain until coming to a complete stop?
Then the scene might cut to show a command center several planets away, where
for each AT-AT there's a launch technician waiting in a knit sweater, ready to
start dancing and call a press conference once their respective unit starts
broadcasting a signal back to the command center?
