| Not having any of the Technic ball and sockets that you mentioned, could not compare their strength thereof. The ball is actually in two halves and has changed from the boxed pic to the actual one that has four depressions for studs. The connectors (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.starwars)

I don't have the AT-TE set (yet) but you can get 2 of the the ball joints in the Geonosian Fighter set...they are pretty sturdy, and have a bit more resistance than the technic ball and sockets.
