No, the Star Destroyer could never destroyer a star. in ANH Han made the
comment that all the ships in the starfleet could not destroy a planet
(being Aldeeran)
I suspect it is called a "Star Destroyer" for the fearsome name. the
Empire ruled by fear and I don't know about you but if I knew that a Star
Destroyer was heading my way I would want to be someplace else, preferable
a few lightyears away...

| My 3 cents worth: Obi-wan: "Destroyed. By the Empire." Han: "The entire star fleet couldn't destroy the whole planet. It'd take a thousand ships with more firepower than I've ..." (seen?) Traditionally, Destroyers are small escort ships, though have (...) (22 years ago, 5-Nov-02, to lugnet.starwars)
