"IDIOTS"??? The sets don't live up to your expectations so the designers must
be "IDIOTS"? Don't you think that might be a little harsh. From everything I
have heard about the Lego Designers (And everything that I deal with daily,
being a designer for an appliance company), they are pretty smart and creative
guys. They just have a lot of constraints forced upon them. They are forced to
design a set with price point in mind. They are quite likely asked to use
certain pieces too, so that the new mold is getting some use. They have to
give Marketing (and Sales) what they want. So with all these contraints I would
be suprised if any but a few AFOLs could come up with something better. Now if
those same constraints aren't placed upon them they could do wonders. Look at
the Sopwith Camel. It is a Lego Direct only product, so quite likely the
Marketing and Sales folks had less effect on it's design. It turned out
wonderful. I have seen it in person and it is neato, but building it would be
a blast. So please just think about some of that before you go calling the
Lego designers idiots. I don't think they deserve it.
