I don't think of this as design FLAWS at all.
The whole point was to try to make a movie that could be seen before the
original trilogy and have it make sense and look like there was continuity.

I think Lucas has even said that he wants the movies to be able to be seen
in order 1-6 and have them make sense.

Star Wars Trilogy.
