Re: New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

As far as I know it, the game is called Football in England, Fußbal in Germany and where I'm from, The Netherlands, voetbal Most countries use the term football... so why not the rest of the world?   Re: A field arrangement Question!

(...) Good question that. They are not in the Expansion pack 3410, and they don't look like they'd be from 3401 (which I don't have yet). Initially I thought that graphic was representing stuff that was left over from putting the 3 packs together (...) (24 years ago, 4-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.sports)

Re: Quidditch, soccor 2 (WARNING:explains about quiddich from harry potter)

Nick We could give it a try. In the castle set we have the sorting hat, robes. In some of the town sets we have brooms?. As far as the snitch could be a bit of gold tree from some of the sets which have gold lego. The Quaffle not sure. Bludger could (...) (24 years ago, 4-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

Quidditch, soccor 2 (WARNING:explains about quiddich from harry potter)

With the upcoming harry potter theme, does anyone think there will be a quidditch field something like the lego soccer fields? In the book, if I remember correctly, there are some people who hit the ball into goals (could be made with normal soccer (...) (24 years ago, 4-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

(...) Yep, Aerial ping-pong, I believe it's called by fans of cross-country wrestling :) [I didn't want to seem to descriminate against fans of one form of football or another.] (...) Ah yes....But it IS after summer, isn't it? ;-) (...) I believe, (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports, lugnet.loc.au)

Re: New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

(...) Does that mean that there will be more sets next year? A green bus, concession stands or perhaps the famous soccer van? I'll keep my fingers crossed... Kev Z #142 (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

  Re: Hmm...

(...) Um, yes, with some extra pieces. Get two of them, and the instructions has some hints on how to combine the two and the supplimental pack. Havn't done it myself (I bougt the field), but should make a small but playable field. (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

  Hmm...

I was thinking of getting the Shoot and Score, since the board costs around $50. I have a question about it. Would I be able to expand the Shoot and Score if I bought just one of the football accesories packs? (That is, if I had two goals.) -- (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

Re: New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

In lugnet.football, David Low writes: <some really good descriptions of different Aust. football codes snipped> Nicely explained, thankyou! I was hoping someone would explain it in more detail, I am really out of my depth with anything other than (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports, lugnet.loc.au)

Re: New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

(...) Expanding on this point: In Australia "round ball football" is called Soccer universally. It is very popular with schoolkids and there is a national competition (see (URL) ). There are three other codes of football that have a major following (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports, lugnet.loc.au)

Re: does anyone actually play this?...

(...) Yes, it's great fun. One field becomes a bit too easy once you are used to it, 2 fields offer lots of possibilities including a "proper" 11 players per team setup, there has been some discussion of this over in loc.au. My 11 a side setup based (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

Re: New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

(...) Yes. (...) Yup, it's soccer. Football possibly refers to Rugby in some parts of Aus, but generally football refers to AFL which is a different game altogether. (...) Yes, but I don't think Lego Australia think for themselves in matters such as (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports, lugnet.loc.au)

Re: New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

(...) Aha!! Interesting! OK, hmm, so, OK, can we back up a bit? So, what you're saying (taking both of your posts into account) is that: 1. The official name of the LEGO product line in Australia is "LEGO Football" and not "LEGO Soccer," and 2. (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports, lugnet.loc.au)

Re: New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

(...) Even here (Aus) the official theme name is still Football although all the Aus. AFOLs here on Lugnet refer to the sets as "soccer" in normal conversation. Lego Australia calls it Football, and so does the annual catalog. Deidre drb@tasmail.com (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

Re: New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

(...) Oh! OK, I'll fix that on the webpage. OK, added the word "most" and now it says this: ("Soccer" is the U.S. name for what is called "Football" most everywhere else in the world.) That's what I've heard for years and years, anyhow. What's it (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

Re: New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

(...) Just to be picky, we Australians also call it soccer. "Football" here generally refers to Australian Rules Football (AFL) although I think that it may also refer to Rugby(?) depending on where you live in Aust. (Can't say for sure, I'm not a (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

  does anyone actually play this?...

Hi! Does anyone actually play the Lego Football (i.e., having bought the large set, do you really use it to play a minifig-scale game of soccer)? If so, do the "kick" thingies really work? How well? Thanks, Franklin ===== Franklin W. Cain | (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports)

  New newsgroup lugnet.sports for Football/Soccer

A new newsgroup lugnet.football has just been created. Brad Justus of LEGO Direct said that Soccer (i.e., Football) is officialy not part of the Town product line and that it's its own product line. Going by this and by the set numbers, it seems (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.sports, lugnet.town, lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.announce)
