These Life on Mars sets have rekindled my interest in Space. I haven't been
a Space builder since the classic sets of the late 70s/early 80s and when I
got the Futuron monorail back in '88. (Though I have bought two 6991 Unitron
monorails in the last year for use in Town).
I don't have any Martians yet (hoping for some with my next ManiaMag), but I
got the 7312 T-3 Trike and 7315 Solar Explorer for Christmas. I like the
modular aspect but wish the canopy on the Explorer was hinged. The Trike
could fit right in with the Futuron theme, I can see it racing along side
the 6990 at a lunar base.
The Martian mechs are neat, but I haven't acted on the temptation to buy
them even with K-Mart's BOGO 50% sale. The closest I've gotten to a mech was
1986's 6940 Alien Moon Stalker, but that set always reminded me of an AT-AT.
I'm not too sure what to think about the big Martian base with the airtubes,
guess I'll wait until I see it up close in the LEGO aisle.
One thing I'd like to see is reddish-orange baseplates, preferably the old
crater style from classic space. I've got only one of those, in lunar gray
from my Alpha-1 Rocket Base. Now that was a great set.
