I just found all seven sets in the greater Detroit area today and picked up the
smallest Martian set. There are several recent canopies in the new trans-orange
(as compared to the misnamed flourescent trans-orange of old):
41883, Jedi Starfighter (Ep2 style) canopy
50896px1, Jedi Starfighter (Ep3 style) canopy w/ new deco
x1477px1, half-sphere bubble (couldn't confirm the hinge style, but it's not
likely to use the old finger-hinges)
47844, Alpha Team Arctic paddle-canopy (just the clear part, not the frame
that it usually goes with)
45705, long-nose 6-wide wedge canopy (High Speed Train, Rescue Chopper, and
Batboat/Batmobile/Batwing)
2466, 3x2x6 half-hex panel
That's a decent enough spread to give anyone a start on using that shade in a
themed MOC line, but the color scheme of the Earther ships is a bit too vibrant.

They're not. They are two-piece "minifigs" with no paint deco, which puts them
several steps behind the LoM Martians, though slightly ahead of a few SW
"minifigs" such as Sebulba. The arms and head are fused to the torso, and the
hands are spaced on about 1 stud centers like they're holding a wheelbarrow.
The legs would work with the LoM/Battle Droid torso...if you don't mind the fact
that they're trans-green. The torso is trans-green on the outside with a
translucent glow-in-the-dark core. Being that it's a two-color molding process,
some of the Martians will look fairly uniform when glowing, while others will
look like they've suddenly had portions of their head/torso go missing (one of
mine looks like he was shot through the upper left side of his head). Oh, and
they have a hole straight through the chest that's used to pin them to the
little "sample" sleds (considerably smaller profile than the LoM aero-tube
sleds, so I doubt they'll work with the bellows system). Basically, the design
looks like they haven't given up on distinct alien styling, but they've realized
that they can't afford to go all-out on the design like they did with the new
skeletal warriors in the Castle line.

Mars Mission logo? What's that? You must be talking about the long-awaited
return of the CLASSIC SPACE LOGO! Yes, indeed, the new Earther minifigs have a
CS logo on their bellies, and CS logos on their ships (the ETX ship comes with
one on a black sticker sized to fit a 2x2 round tile). Granted, there was the
red CS bomber jacket, but that was never used in any Space sets, just Town and
Spiderman.

| Hey Spaceheads, After looking at the high-res pics in the latest e-mail, I have to say I'm much happier. Mostly white and black, some intriguing new pieces such as the quarter circle brick, and corridor panels in new trans-orange! Still can't tell (...) (18 years ago, 22-May-07, to lugnet.space)
