Hi Brent
Well, last time, I wrote that the space hopper were the only well dimensioned
macrofig craft Ive seen. That has changed a bit since; the other day somebody
uploaded a truly awesome spacefighter made in 2000.
When I sniffed around in your folder looking for the hopper, I found out it was
yours! Im really impressed by the tilework and stealth/space shuttle
crossover... I was like... you cant do that with lego! Wow!
So now Ive seen three, and they were all yours! (have you presented the
spacefighter from 2000 here at .space yet?)
Ok, back to the newest one: the racer:
I think its really, really cool, your tilework has once more impressed me: I
think the varied pattern of tiles is the most elegant subdued greeble Ive
seen so far; Id like to see more like that in the future!
Regarding the megablocks, Im agreeing with James in not liking them, but unlike
him, I wont ask you to try all over again since I can see that theyre the
cardinal pieces in the model, and cant be substituted with lego without a
massive loss of the smoothness you like so much: Why should you or anybody
diminish their own pleasure of building just for the sake of others?
Wether you should stay clear of megablocks in the future is another, and much
more controversial, question; on one hand, theres a challenge in using the
limited supply of pieces that TLC provides, and it feels a bit like cheating for
the insiders to go outside that collection (but then again, what about custom
stickers?), on the other hand, succesful use of other pieces might also prompt
TLC to start making some of the pieces we dream of...
Before you take it apart, Ive got a few suggestions:
What about blending the yellow and grey parts of the wings a bit more, making it
a little more jigsaw puzzle-like? And I think you should drag in the front
grille a bit leaving a rim made by the hull around it: It would give it a more
Porshe-like look.
And when youre talking about takint it apart, I have to ask you something: You
*DO* record your models in some ldraw-software before killing them? If not you
should start at once: You wont regret it, and anything else would be a huge
loss for the world! Personally Ive got all my 52 models from the last 10 years
recorded that way: I would hate to see all that work were wasted, just because
the model were disassembled and forgotten. And then I can always have a look at
them and do a rendering if I want to. Furthermore Im working on a webpage about
them, which wouldnt be possible if I hadnt any record of them.

PS: Did you see my last reply to the hopper? I wrote a lot there too...?

| Hello, Before I finally dismantle this MOC I thought I should take some final photos of it. This is my favorite space ship design which, I guess is why it has survived for several years. With this model though, in order to achieve the shape I (...) (20 years ago, 16-Aug-04, to lugnet.announce.moc, FTX) !
