I became inspired by Jake’s intermodal warehouse, and specifically by the idea of trains riding around on the Moonbase project transporting containers. I had left BrickFest PDX thinking that I would build some 8 wide ore cars, but now I decided to jump right into intermodal:-)

I whipped up this Space loco and container car, along with some containers that fit to the “standard” Jake set. It was a lot of fun designing the containers-- among the color schemes I used: Spamcake, Blacktron, and Maersk:-)

Anyway, I haven’t much time to elaborate, so I’ll just provide the link:

that locomotive positively rocks! it’d probably be too tall for the moonbase (or very close), but it positively oozes style (like an old streamliner), I love it.

Hey, thanks! Yeah, I really got carried away with the design. It had even been shortened already by 1 full brick height:-) I’m not used to building from fantasy, and so things just took off. I had in the back of my mind the utilitarian nature of an old 44 Tonner, but super powerful. I envisioned each truck as some high energy output motor, and really wanted to use the newer round slopes for something. In fact, I build the motors first and then added the cabin:-)

the freight car is really neat too, but apart from the colors, it doesn’t really match the loco, IMO.

lol Actually, I built the container car first (actually, I built the containers first, after having seen Jakes’s work). Had so much fun with those that I built what I thought to be a modern version of a Husky Stack car. The whole exercise revolved around shrouding the wheels to make it look futuristic, but still very utilitarian. Then I decided I needed an engine to pull it (after deciding not to make the container car into some sort of “runner loco”. That’s when I started getting fanciful:-)

I love how both models wrap down around their wheels, very nifty.

I am a huge ST:V fan, and some of my favorite episodes revolve around Tom Paris’ holodeck program featuring Captain Proton. I love seeing futuristic visions from the past that look so.... “corny” isn’t the word... maybe it is. So although it is a “futuristic” loco, it reaks, as you mentioned, of an old Streamlined steamer from the 30’s.

Something I also noticed: my loco appears to be a 3vil chipmunk from the side! 8-O

Sorry for rambling on; I had wanted to talk about it earlier but was pressed for time.

Thanks again for the kind words!

JOHN
