Although I find CS to be a great reference for anything space or
over-the-top-aviation, it does stray into that huh area when it comes to
physics and general rule-bending. When the first computer game came out a few
years ago, the main point in many reviews was that it deviated from the standard
flight sim mantra of realism...flight model...stress on the airframe in favor
of fun, arcade-like play. The same could be said of CS as a whole in the realm
of style over purpose. Its the whole Physics of Star Trek debate all over
again. Sure, the scientific laws we have no suggest that we cant travel faster
than light, but that doesnt necessarily mean that we wont figure it out
somehow.
That being said, I would suggest a different style of landing gear not because
of its plausibility, but because Dan has used it before. I like the deviation,
and I feel that it should be built upon, and used to discover new techniques.
Maybe well come up with something thats both different and structurally sound.
By the way, I routinely get stomped on that demo too.

| (...) Ya, but doesn't the Devastator (the first plane you fly with, at least in the demo) have mid or tip wing rudders (underneath) which also have landing gear in them? So it's not totally unreasonable(1). Besides maybe the wings are made of (...) (21 years ago, 21-Mar-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
