Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) WOW. It is an honor to be the first to stand, stare, gape, and drool. This is sweet. WOW. An excellent study in design. No complicated construction or elaborate back-story, just a nice sleek look. WOW. Aaron S (20 years ago, 14-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Thanks for the kind words Aaron...it was a fun one to build and even 'funner' to whoosh around! I wish I could say the brevity of the page and description were due to intent rather than a late night...but I can't ;) Cheers, -G (20 years ago, 14-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Sounds good! But be warned...other 'skullish' buyers have shown interest as well... Cheers, -G (20 years ago, 14-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) Cheers & thanks, squire! (20 years ago, 14-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) You should mount this craft on some hefty fishing line, and get a low speed motor, so it whizzes over the heads of everyone at Brickfest. Aaron (20 years ago, 14-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Whoa! Firefox ((URL) pic>) lives !!! Better watch out, 3vil will send Clint Eastwood to steal it. James Wilson Dallas, TX (20 years ago, 14-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

This is a great ship. I love how simple and sleek it is. As I said before, I really like the black top/grey belly—it gives it an organic look. The angle of the thrusters and the lip over the intakes works really well too. The details in the cockpit (...) (20 years ago, 14-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Wowzers! It's been a while since I saw something this distinctive! A lot of nice work in this. Some neat details: gear inside the jets to suggest fans, the angled wings (I have a bad habit of making craft that are way too horizontal, so I pay (...)   Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

-snip- (...) Gil, This is a really swift ship - the engines section is particularly well thought out and dynamic. However, the cock-pit, and specifically the nose, don't really "do-it" for me. It just looks really basic when the engine section looks (...) (20 years ago, 14-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Sweet! That's a cool moc, Gil! Reminds me alot of the blackbird, yet it is distinct in its own way. Love the engine intakes and the landing gear. And the inside of the cockpit is neat- sparse yet effective with the few controls. I also like (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Pure whoosh, indeed! As a longtime fan of your work, I find myself yet again amazed at the complex and original studless designs you manage to create. Kudos! Captain Krotzer, The Unknown Division (URL) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Thanks Joe! You nailed it....I started really thinking about this one after seeing X2 again. The angles are a tried and true method for me as well...really helps gives the ships some profile. Cheers, -G (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) I agree on this point. I was looking at another solution for it, but I wanted to save it for a similar ship that is in the planning...didn't want them to look too similar. Thanks! -G (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Thanks John! It was fun to build and see what could be done to reduce studs as much as possible without sacrificing form. As for the splash, it's a different angle, but the same model. Perhaps it's the lighting. Cheers, -G (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Hee hee, I'd forgotten about that part. What a crock! (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Gil, I really like the body design. I've abandoned a lot spacecraft builds in the past, that morphed from "cool cockpit" to "cockpit + thin body + engines/boosters". Your SPR-71 tells me it can be accomplished; I never thought the thin neck (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: SPR-71 Onyx: High Altitude Recon Craft

(...) Many thanks Nick! I wasn't quite sure how the goose neck would turn out either, but I think the snot'ted on black tiling visually gives in enough weight to work somewhat. TLC's wonderous long tapered slopes of the past 3 years have done (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
