It seemed to work out pretty well to just place track wherever it fit.
Unless a lot of modules include track built in, I think people can put
their track center on any multiple of 8 studs from the edge of the
baseplate. Having the track center 8 studs from the edge instead of the
16 would allow plenty of clearance around a corridor.
I found it pretty easy to locate support towers around peoples
structures, but then I also have plenty of the 2x2x5 lattice towers
which make a smaller footprint support.
