I think the "official" standard works great- the NWBrickCon was a perfect
demonstration of that. But there are two things that I'd like to see nailed
down for expanding the standards. This post addresses the monorail issue.
To some degree, most modules short enough to fit under a 20-high monorail
are fine and you can just run track over the top. There are some exceptions
(ie you don't want a landing pad directly under track), and there is the
problem of running out of supports for all the track.
I personally would have liked to see more track running at the normal
off-ground height (10 bricks). This will be immediately next to the
buildings (vertically speaking). The problem I have here is that you can't
run a train alongside even a simple straight hallway unless that hall has
*nothing* that sticks out wider than the corridor connection. On the other
hand, as long as there are enough empty plates, we can cope.
Who else cares?

| (...) It seemed to work out pretty well to just place track wherever it fit. Unless a lot of modules include track built in, I think people can put their track center on any multiple of 8 studs from the edge of the baseplate. Having the track center (...) (22 years ago, 8-Oct-02, to lugnet.space)
