Starfury Mk 1 (let's see if anyone can work out how I did the wings: hint,
they are sturdy and don't wobble - unlike those on a lego xwing) :)

Much better than those on mine:

Has anyone here seen actual dimensions on how big the Star Fury was supposed
to be? I do think mine's too small (and the engine pods doubly so)[0], but
one of the reasons I went this route is because the other option I could
come up with, which was much like yours, seemed monstrously large.

Well, I looked at quite a few pictures of starfurys before and after I made
mine.  And it is fairly close to being exactly to minifig scale.  In fact,
the wings are almost on the exact angle of those in the show.  The only
thing that is out of scale is the cockpit.  The ejecting cockpit in the show
would be the equivalent of two-three studs long.  Obviously this is to small
to be practical, and mine ended up being five (the TIE cockpit was 3 studs
long).

I like the use of the TIE fighter front glass

When I got this piece, I knew I was destined to make a starfury out of it ;).

and the Star Wars engines

They were a last minute addition when I realised that I had nothing else
even close to the starfury engines.

(mine
predates both of those pieces...), and the engines look spot-on. Only real
gripe I've got is you need to take some white tiles to that 6x8 plate on the
top:

..XX..
.X..X.
X....X
X....X
X....X
.X..X.
XX..XX

I actually have a much better version of my starfury that I'll have up in a
few days.  It's going to be an omega squadron starfury, and I made the omega
sign by using a patter like this:

  xx
x  x
x    x
x    x
x  x
xx  xx

Which is much closer to being a circle in lego form :).

Also in my better version, the whole ship is nowhere near as boxy.  And it
has far less same height surfaces on it.

...with some space to spare. :)

I think I need to re-work mine. Besides, it didn't survive the move...

[0] Scale being a dubious concept with minifig creations, the smaller size
made me think that I would have an easier time building an Omega Destroyer to
carry these around. Note that I have no Omega destroyer pictures online? :)
