In terms of photography, try to avoid black, but other than that, it all
depends on how well you can "sell" it. I think generally, most people go
for one primary color, one secondary color, and one or two very sparsely
used detail colors. That's not to say you can't use more - I've seen great
ships with lots (and lots) of colors used, but that primary-secondary-detail
model is a pretty good place to start.
