Here's a riddle for you:

One of these Galaxy Explorers is from a set.  The other I made using my own
parts (Thanks Bricklink!).

Which is the actual set?

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=111629

What does it matter?  Both are made of Lego bricks and are built with the
same instructions.  I never understood why people would keep the parts of a
given set separate from other parts.  I guess I'm just not that kind of
collecter- I'm far more interested in building unique stuff.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me. However, the question was posed, so I
answered it to the best of my knowledge. I'm less interested in sets (with a
few exceptions) and more interested in useable parts than I used to be. BTW
I don't have this set. I may have all of the relevant parts, but not the
instructions. I get a wierd sense of accomplishment by having an original
set of instructions. It's my own hang-up and I'm sure professional
counselling would rid me of it, but why would I want to? :-)

And every time I look at this thing I marvel at the simple elegance.  Almost
every piece on it is in active production today (not counting color or
printing).  There are what... 8 parts in the entire set that haven't been
produced in the last year or two?  And of those 8, most have similar
replacements.  Heck, there is only one piece on the ship itself that doesn't
have a "close-enough" equivalent.  Argh!  They could sell these for under >$40!!

I agree. I would say that this is a good candidate for a Legends re-release.
I would buy it even with a couple of part substitutions. Call me
sentimental, but it's still an awesome set.

<snip!> (...) Take a look at the thread from back in December when Brad Justus was asking the Lugnet community about the Legends series, and what the next one might be. I think there was a lot of enthusiasm about releasing the Galaxy Explorer as a (...) (23 years ago, 1-Feb-02, to lugnet.space)
