WOW!!! That ship has great design!

Yah, lookin' good.  One of my all-time favorite spaceship designs!

And descending into the inner workings of sci-fi hardware is one of my
all-time fave passtimes.  You've been warned.  :-,

Since I don't know *anything* about B5, I gotta ask a few questions.
tee hee

Okay, let's set the record straight...  *cracks knuckes*

1. Are the red circle missile tube covers/"lids"?
I think so, never saw them used though.

This is mostly true.  It is suspected that they are a modular package, as
there seem to have been docking procedures seen at this spot in at least one
episode.  But there's so dang many of them, and there's already a set of
barn doors for taking in fighters just to the rear of the red boxes...

The missile boxes we've seen on the Earth defense grid units don't look like
these red boxes, but that's really not a very good indicator.  Personally, I
think they are torp launchers.  It would've been cool just once to watch an
Omega blow its wad (kinda like those promo shots of a KC-130 launching all
ECMS at once), but sadly, they didn't do that in the show.

2. What kind of cannons does the ship use? Particle Accelerator? Laser?
Energy weapons. Dunno what kind. But almost all are forward/reverse based.
Some are pulse cannons, to shoot in all directions at fighters and such.

All the big guns on the Omega class destroyers are turret-mounted
multipurpose directed-energy cannons (probably some kind of particle
cannon).  In Severed Dreams, we see them firing pulse-style, however in All
Alone in the Dark, they fire beam-style.  The only reason I can think of is
that in the first application they were being used against quick-moving
fighters, and in the latter against a large and slow ship.

3. Is the rotating section used by crew taking a break from zero-g duties?
Yes. in Babylon 5, humans dont have Artifical Gravity. All the other races do...

Again, mostly true.  It appears that the bridge (I think all the scenes
we've seen onboard an Omega were on the bridge) is under gravity, which
*might* indicate that most if not all life support systems work within the
rotating section.  Indeed, in the ep before Severed Dreams (I forget the
title) it's mentioned that if they take one more hit, they'd go zero-g...

4. Does the ship have a hanger? How big is it?
It does, it holds a squadron of Starfuries IIRC

Yah, that sounds about right.  Maybe 1 or 2 squadrons, just enough for
defense.  Also, they've been carrying the newer Thunderbolt fighters lately.

5. What's the max. crew size?
Dunno.

Dunno.  I would imagine that life on an Omega is pretty spartan, with few if
any non-mission-critical personnel.

6. What kind of engines are those? FTL?
They are FTL, they open a jump-point and traverse through hyperspace.

Well....  the FTL aspects aren't necessarily attached to the engines.  What
we've seen of the main engines suggest that they're the plain vanilla
thrust-type.  The ship itself is indeed FTL-capable, but there are no
indications as to where the jump engines are.  I'm guessing that's what the
elongated section between the engine block and the rotating section is for,
but then it could be an enormous closet...

7. How big is the ship?
500m-1km long. dunno exactly. can find out all info most likely if ya want it.

I'm not sure it's quite that long.  Good question, tho, now I gotta go hit
the websites for a consensus...

Dag, man -- there's one estimate of 1717 meters!  Hmmm, considering that the
B5 station is over 5 miles long, mebbe the Omega is indeed in the 1km-long
scale... (1)

FWIW, there's some decent image galleries here:

http://www.starshipmodeler.com/b5/b5tech.htm
http://hyperspace.isnnews.net/ea/index.html

That last link is a hardware encyclopedia of sorts, some decent images,
though their data is way off in places...

Cheers,

1.  Just to show y'all I can mix measurement systems as well as any at NASA :-,
