In lugnet.robotics.rcx.robolab, Richard Hamilton writes:
Robolab 2.0 is out, and the software is much improved. Robolab 2.0 now • supports
more programming structures, more sensors (sound, ph, etc.), and the RCX
datalogging feature. In my opinion 2.0 now compares very favorably to nqc.
Robolab 2.0 is the best graphical environment for programming the RCX.

About upgrading 1.5: Robolab 2.0 consists of two parts, programmer and
investigator. Programmer is the upgraded 1.5 software you are familiar with,
and investigator is the feature that supports datalogging. Pitsco sells the
investigator package separately from the full Robolab 2.0 version, for half • the
price. Yet neither Pitsco nor Dacta knows if adding the investigator to 1.5
will also provide the fixes and enhancements for programmer. I ordered
investigator, and after seven weeks Pitsco shipped me the full version because
they could not get the investigator only upgrade.

There are a few bugs in Robolab 2.0, but not as many as there were in 1.0. • This
software is ready for prime time.

After using Robolab 2.0 for a few weeks, I highly recommend it! New features
include:

Extras are easier to install (everyone should want the extras now)
Supports the RCX datalogging in the Investigator selection (still uses the same
programmer commands)
The graphic functions in Investigator are very rich
Can use the internet to remotely poll data, and also for direct mode
Can locally use direct mode
Added advanced output commands (4)
Added support for the internal time-of-day clock
Allows defining, using, and deleting subroutines
Added EQUAL forks for testing (11)
Supports clicks, not just touches or releases
Added Loop and Test structures (36)
Added piano player
Allows integer constants to be assigned labels using container.ctl
Added ability to explicitly stop and start subtasks
They even added the ability to save 2.0 VIs in 1.x format (this allows for
mixed environments)

The real proof of Robolab 2.0 was when Ben Erwin at Tufts converted all the nqc
examples in Dave Baum's Definitive Guide to Lego Mindstorms to Robolab 2.0
programs. These examples were included on a CD with Dave's book. Ben
demonstrated that Robolab is almost as powerful as nqc! (A big thanks to Ben
for his hard work on the examples)

One big advantage to Robolab 2.0 is how one software program can appeal to a
wider audience. Robolab 1.x was limited to 8-12 year olds, while Robolab 2.0 is
viable for all ages! Try Robolab and let us know what you discover.
