Sorry, Dean - now I got your point. There is indeed no way to read the contents
of the datalog. What about storing the data (e.g. for path information, maps,
etc.) into an ARRAY instead of the datalog? With RIS2.0 and the latest NQC
version you have this feature.
The sad thing is that the dimension of an array and the number of all global
variables is less equal 32.
However, I experimented a bit with a trace-back algorithm and could pack
(shifting, masking and "oring") several data into one "word" stored then in
array [i]. But this is admittedly only a poor approach.
By the way, why don't we suggest Lego to implement a READ DATALOG command?
I don't know where to send this proposal. Up to now, none of my mails with
problems, suggestions or questions I sent to Lego have ever been answered ...

All we can do is hope that the few people they do ask for feedback will point out these 'lacking' points. But, since version 2.0 (...) (24 years ago, 10-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)
