I'm not familiar with the serial comms used in firmdl & dll, and don't have the source here at work, but maybe this causes the (...) (24 years ago, 5-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

I don't think it's the serial port handling under NT, because there are some guys out there who have been able to work with legos and NT without problems, isn't it?
