I could send you a copy of the Legos Kernel (legOS.srec and legOS.lds) files I am using and you can see if your code compiles and works better under it (actually I am using a patched version of 0.2.4, a early beta from Luis for what will most likely (...) I also have a LegOS 0.2.4 program that uses two rotation sensors on input ports 1 and 3 as well as another active sensor (the Technostuff Dual IRPD sensor) on port 2. All work flawlessly, no counter drift noted on the rotation sensor. Perhaps it is (...) (24 years ago, 16-Nov-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

(...) That's true. However, IMO, man pages are good for reference but not good for first-time learning. A quick tutorial with a couple of simple code examples might be nice.
