Hello all. I know almost nothing about LEGO robotics, but my mom picked up an
RCX 1.0 brick at a yard sale. I just have the brick - no accessories, no
software.
Before I go buying stuff to go with it, is there any way to tell if this
thing even works? Thank you very much for your help.

First, put batteries in it and turn it on. Itll beep ok. Then attach a
technic 9v motor to port A with a wire and press Run. If the motor spins, the
brick has basic sanity, and its worth your time and money to get a IR tower to
program it and test if further. Its possible to get a brick that works, but
wont accept a new program though.
