Slow mode with the serial tower definitely was broken in BricxCC for a really
long time because nobody ever reported to me that it was broken until about 2 or
3 weeks ago. I apologize for not noticing this problem on my own.
Unfortunately, it looks like fast mode really is at least somewhat broken in
this release. I'm going to upload a test executable which may work for those of
you who have previously experienced firmware downloading problems in BricxCC.
Can I persuade some of you to try it out and email me your findings?
Before I do that, though, I really need a more detailed report from those of you
who are experiencing a firmware download failure. Is BricxCC complaining that
the download failed but the firmware did, in fact, actually download
successfully (i.e., you can use the Diagnostics tool or any of the other tools
with the RCX successfully in spite of the BricxCC error message)? Is the error
reported after the progress bar goes all the way to the right or does the error
occur very early on in the process? Please confirm that you have tried both
fast and slow modes (via the "Use fast mode" check box on the General tab of the
Preferences dialog).
Thanks!
