(...) Well on the back of the LEGO train power supply it list Output as 12VAC 7VA, so I'm assuming that the DC conversion is done in the speed regulator, I couldn't tell you why. (...) true - but I think the RCX input is rated 9-12V. I don't have a train transformer here, but wouldn't it be outputing 12VDC? Can't imagine why they'd put a AC to DC converter in the regulator... Hi, I'd like to know what kind of adapter I could use (and how) for supplying my RCX with power, since it has no inlet. I have tried to use DC adapters for 6, 9, and 12 Volts, all without success. I calculated the acceleration of gravity once with a light sensor, touch sensor (for timing purposes), a ruler, and ROBOLAB 2. It didn't involve a whole lot of data so it didn't make it into the Sample Projects of ROBOLAB Investigator, but some (...) (24 years ago, 20-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

I think you're off to a good start! You mention some problems that I think can be overcome, others I'm not sure about... but I'll offer my two cents anyway...
