However - there is the possibility that this will work in future. How
the NXT uses Bluetooth is largely down to the firmware, and Lego have
published the source code earlier this month. I have previously stated
1 on The NXT Step blog that I want to try to hack the NXTs Bluetooth
software to talk to standard Bluetooth game controllers. If this works
Io should be able to add support for the Wii Remote too. :-)

Thanks for the good info -- I had forgotten that BT allows for so many services.
Mindsensors Playstation 2 controller interface must be converting the human
interface signals into serial port messages. Now that the official firmware can
be modified, as you mentioned, a software solution seems quite possible, and it
could be more flexible. Logitech manufactured a wireless joystick a couple years
ago, for example, which would be just as cool to use as a
pure-LEGO
joystick.
Meanwhile, I found a joystick-controlled NXT robot that uses a PC as an intermediary, and if he ever
releases his source code I could probably adapt it to convert Wiimote signals.
Its not as convenient as a direct, PC-less connection, though.
