Well, in my quest for new and neat things to add to my robot, I've
decided to start exploring IR transmission.  I downloaded the REC80
routines, and have figured out that one of my TV/VCR/cable box remotes is
compatable for the TV and VCR.  It gives me codes like $4703 and such.
However, when I try to send $4703 with the rec80-tx routines, nothing
happens.  I have an IR led connected to the HB's IR port, through something
like a 300 ohm resistor.  I believe the diode is actually transmitting,
though I'm still messing with it, and don't have one of those spiffy IR
Did you tried to remove the resistor? I actually simply fitted the IR diode
in the female header. I found that the red diode beside the header would
light less if the IR diode is emitting, since those two diode are installed
in parallel. The IR diode I took was grabbed an old Nintendo remote control.

cards.  Also, I'm not sure whether my HB is transmitting on 40khz, right now
I haven't put in the right resistor I got for it, instead it has a
non-precision resistor with a value close to what it's supposed to be.  (I
forget what it was, it's been a while.  :-)  Anyways, I'm trying to figure
out whether I'm sending valid codes or not.  Can I merely take thgat $4703
number that rec80-ir gives me, and then transmit it again?  Or do I have to
do something else to it?  So many things that could be wrong here...
Sheesh!

I started a big program (with menu, date/time) which can learn the sended
code by any REC-80 compliant remote control. I installed the handyboard near
my Hitachi tv/video and punched few commands on my remote. When I asked the
handyboard to playback the array containing the sequence, it actually turned
on my tv, muted the volume, switched to the 04 channel, turned on my vcr and
played the video tape!! This was accomplished with the same delay I used
when I punched the keys of my remote control. (This means that if I would
wait 0.1 second between pressing 0 and 4, the handyboard would almost
recreate the same delay) For now, it's using a user defined delay (like
about 0.1 sec) between each scan of the IR_data subroutine.
I also found that some IR codes emitted by my stereo Sony remote (which is
*NOT* REC-80 compliant) where detected by IR_data. I haven't tried to send
those code, tho.
Try to trim the values IR_zero, IR_one, header delays, etc.. You can find
those values on dnegro's web page. (I think?)

Handyboard is great!!! ^_^
