voltage regulator current rating —Zak M Umanoff
Does anyone know the current rating on the 5V voltage regulator located next to the power switch? I am using a bunch of IR sensors, and am supplying power to them via the +5 V bus, but my VR seems to be getting quite hot. The sensors draw around (...)         Re: voltage regulator current rating —Fred G. Martin
(...) The rated total is 1 amp. The HB itself draws 100 to 200 mA? I'm not sure, I haven't measured it exactly. Since the HB's battery is 9.6v, and the output voltage of the regulator is 5v, the thing drops 4.6v, and at 600 to 700 mA of current that (...)    (...) Is there any current going directly into GND from the LM2931Z-5.0? If so, would this cause any "extra" heat other than from the current the HB draws? -Eric (29 years ago, 16-May-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
