Is there any current going directly into GND from the LM2931Z-5.0? If so, would this cause any "extra" heat other than from the current the HB draws?

| (...) The rated total is 1 amp. The HB itself draws 100 to 200 mA? I'm not sure, I haven't measured it exactly. Since the HB's battery is 9.6v, and the output voltage of the regulator is 5v, the thing drops 4.6v, and at 600 to 700 mA of current that (...) (29 years ago, 6-May-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
