I have my Polaroid Sonar connected and running.  It seems to work
perfectly.  There is no additional circuitry required.  In fact it works
so well, I am probably not going to install the IR system, at this time.

I looked arround and this is the cheapestI've found so far. If you go to the various ultrasound specialists, they want an arm and a leg...make that your a torso too.

I believe these polaroid things are manufactured in LARGE production conpared to the others, that's why. But the other companies sell more precise and varied products. From what I've seen so far, the polaroid needs some extra circuitry to be useful. Other products have interfaces for parrallel, serial, mux, etc.

I've only been searching this area for like a month or so so I may be wrong. So, anyone with more info, please correct me.  :)

I would like to add range-finding of some description to my robot project.

I would prefer to make it as cheap as possible.  I have heard of the various
polaroid-based schemes, but these all sound as though they are $90+
solutions.  Does it have to be this expensive?

Can anyone summarize the various options?
