I looked arround and this is the cheapestI've found so far. If you go to the various ultrasound specialists, they want an arm and a leg...make that your a torso too.
I believe these polaroid things are manufactured in LARGE production conpared to the others, that's why. But the other companies sell more precise and varied products. From what I've seen so far, the polaroid needs some extra circuitry to be useful. Other products have interfaces for parrallel, serial, mux, etc.
I've only been searching this area for like a month or so so I may be wrong. So, anyone with more info, please correct me. :)

| I have my Polaroid Sonar connected and running. It seems to work perfectly. There is no additional circuitry required. In fact it works so well, I am probably not going to install the IR system, at this time. Larry (...) (29 years ago, 15-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
