Yes, there is a pin compatible EPROMs and EEPROMs for the Handyboard's
RAM chip. However, without the RAM chip the board is limited to the 256
bytes (or 512 bytes in some versions) of on-chip RAM which can be pretty
limiting.
Another option is to create a daughterboard that plugs into the RAM
socket
that contains four 8K sockets, that you can populate with RAM or EPROM.
Or you could get the 68HC711E9 which has 12K of EPROM on chip, and
then use the RAM as RAM.
In all three cases you will no longer be able to use IC as it assumes
there
is a 32K chunk of RAM at $8000 - $ffff.
