My lab partner and I are going to make our robot talk using a voice
recorder/player chip from www.isd.com. They are easy to use. Don't know if
this fits your purpose.

author Gordon Mccomb describes how to make a robot 'speak', via a parallel
port. From what I know this SHOULD work, though I can't guarrantee success.
If you have this book: try it out. I myself, have not, though, because the
SPO256-al2 speech processing is not readilly available to me (That is, I
would have to mail order a single <$10 I.C. and pay $5 shipping and
handeling.) Please, someone, either wearn me, and others, if this would not
work, or try it yourself and tell us (the mailing list your results!
thanks!
