anyone be able to get the vector working *without* using any other
microcontroller board (using only the handyboard)?  I have looked at the
vector data sheets (from the newton labs site) and the app notes dont
include a hookup to a 68HC11.  Although it says that the app notes apply to
most motorola chips with an SPI port the description was not very clear
both conceptually or visually (fax back is grainy and fuzy).
All I need is the cheapest, sleaziest way to hook this thing up;  I
dont need any bells or whistles.  I just need to know if its possible.

You'll need 3 input and 2 output lines.  One input and two outputs are
available at the SPI port, (right side of board, J6?).  Find two more
discrete inputs on the Handyboard and you're set.  All the other inputs on
the V2X can be hardwired high or low.  The code I posted a month or so ago
could be easily rewritten for IC, that's what I changed it into SBasic
from! I used Port E bits 0 and 1 for my additional inputs, and that's the
only thing that might be different between a HB implementation and mine on
the Tcomp.

It was also quite worthwhile getting the developer's board (another $50)
because it holds the chip and hangs off a DB25 male socket.  You also get
a cable and software to test via the PC, which came in handy when I was
absolutely certain the thing was broken because, hey my SW just *had* to
be right this time! NOT!

Make certain you have version 1.04 of the PNI V2X docs.

Anyway, let me know if you need a copy of that code.
